Community : A Day of Blessings

By Julie Bailey

Over the last seven years, my husband Greg and I have traveled from Australia to Destin, FL to participate in the Destin Week of Blessings.  We were so overwhelmed at God’s blessing and favor over this city that we introduced the model in Australia, our home, and then New Zealand.

We started with a Day of Blessing and over the last four years it has been amazing to watch politicians, business people, and even members of the media come together to participate in the event. Greg and I have witnessed breakthroughs in the lives of our city leaders, area businesses, and clergy. We receive countless testimonies about the effectiveness of the model in bringing unity to the city and breakthrough in businesses and lives.

“People should be doing positive things in the city like this more often.  People speak negatively about the city and its leaders but the Day of Blessing is a breath of fresh air!”

An email from a sitting member of the region summed it up well.  She shares, “People should be doing positive things in the city like this more often.  People speak negatively about the city and its leaders but the Day of Blessing is a breath of fresh air!”  In another region we have worked with four different Mayors.  The current Mayor, driving home after officiating, gave me a call to tell us that she had just had a major breakthrough in an area she had been working on for years. Media participation has been just as enthusiastic resulting in front page headlines such as “Our Town is Blessed.”

Greg and I bear witness that this model has made a huge difference in our community.  Most businesses are humbled and thankful that we take the time to bless their business. We encourage anyone who has a heart to see a community changed to step out and begin.  It does not matter if there are just a few or if you don’t feel like you have it all together, God will bless it!  You have to start somewhere; evil prevailswhen good men do nothing.
